H. Narayan Murthy Internship program specially designed for IGNOU students according to their Criteria with the profound training of 240 Hours for Clinical and Counselling specialization, topics mentioned below covered according to the specialization of course. 

 

The internship program will be carried out by Utsaah Psychology Clinic under the supervision of RCI Recognized Clinical Psychologist

There are 3 parts of H. Narayan Murthy Internship:

Module 1:

Introductory exposure to Psychotherapy and Classification (ICD or DSM): Psychotherapy is a treatment option for individuals suffering from a wide range of mental diseases and emotional problems. By this section, students will get to learn the basics of Psychotherapy, its types, and its uses in different situations. Also, they may learn the classification of different manuals like ICD & DSM and its ethics.

Understanding of Mental Difficulties and Disorders: To become an effective counselor or therapist, it is necessary to have a good understanding of the wide range of mental disorders and emotional difficulties. In this module, the students will be taught about the different types of emotional difficulties and mental disorders like:

  • Anxiety disorders (including panic disorder, OCD, and phobias)
  • Depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders
  • Personality disorders
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Eating disorders
  • Psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia

With the understanding of various disorders as listed above the lectures will also cover the major symptoms and causes for the taught disorders.  

Module 2:

Assessment & Therapeutic Techniques

Mental State Examinations (MSE): Mental state examinations is an important part of the clinical assessment in which we observe and describe the patient current state of mind especially behavioral and cognitive functioning in a structured way. Students will be taught with Components of MSE & Format and tabulation of MSE.

Case History Training: A Case study is one of the major steps of Psychological Treatment and intervention. The case study is an in-depth study and the right technique which helps us to understand our client's problems and also helps in making the suitable intervention plan for the same. So, in this internship, you will learn the right skills and strategies to perform an effective case study.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

  • Introduction to CBT
  • Understanding of Cognitive Conceptualization & Treatment
  • Identifying negative thoughts and emotions
  • Structure & Planning of the First Therapy Session
  • Structure & Planning of the second session onwards

Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT)

  • Introduction to REBT
  • REBT’s ABC(DE) Technique

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)

  • Introduction & Principals of IPT
  • Techniques & Supervision

Stress & Anxiety Management

  • Introduction and type to stress
  • Soft techniques of Stress and Anxiety Management

Module 3:

Psychological Testing and Assessments

Understanding on different types of Psychological Testings like:

  • Personality Tests
  • Intelligence tests
  • Attitude tests
  • Projective tests

Report writing and interpretation

Administration and Scoring

Ethics in Psychological Practice and Mental healthcare Act, 2017

Module 4:

Role plays, group discussion, and minimum of 10 case studies will be carried out during the whole internship.

Certification:

After Successful Completion of Internship and Exams, Intern will get the certificate for this along with the details about the skill that you learned.
